About

Establishment of collaborations on advanced Mg alloy development in East Asia

Based on Kumamoto University’s advanced technology for Mg alloys, and through the promotion of complementary joint studies with universities and research institutes in East Asia, the center aims to establish the foundations for continuous, strategic and mutually-beneficial international collaborations on the development of advanced Mg alloys.
Under the leadership by Kumamoto University with its advanced Mg alloy development technologies, a complementary joint research system is to be developed with other research institutes located in East Asia. For instance, Japan (Kumamoto University, Kyushu University and National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology) is in charge of the development of alloy generating machining processes, and participating institutes overseas (China: Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, South China University of Technology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University; South Korea: Hongik University, KITECH; Taiwan: Sun Yat-sen University, Dong Hwa University) are in charge of the development of large-scaled technologies for melting, casting, die-casting, pressing, rolling and injection molding, utilizing their own large-scale facilities.FY 2009-2011 Strategic Funds for the Promotion of Science and Technology from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan
